A confirmation email arrives when you join — a working address is how the club verifies members and keeps out spammers. Used for meet-up alerts and nothing else, and never shown on the map.

The Facebook group

Facebook will not let us add you automatically — nobody can do that. This just helps us recognize your request when it comes in, so you are not left waiting.

What shows publiclyYour display name and your town and state. That is the whole public record. Your full name, height, ZIP code, email, photo and Facebook name are never shown to the public. Your name and photo can be shown to other Members, but only if you switch that on yourself in your profile after you join.
